Direct Reporting Line:National Academic Operations Manager
To oversee and manage all operational aspects of our online ‘campus’ from registration to graduation/certification.
The candidate will work directly with our Academic Co-Navigator, Central Academic and National Teams to deliver online qualifications and short courses.
To implement and ensure slick and efficient processes with a focus on student retention and satisfaction.
Preferably a postgraduate qualification with at least an initial qualification at degree level.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Computer literacy including but not limited to working on enterprise level systems and with document management and tracking.
Leadership, management and administration skills.
Conflict resolution, mediation and cooperative communication skill.
Interpersonal skills characterised by tact and diplomacy and an ongoing ability to participate effectively in a team that is spread across the country.
Capacity to get others to follow by example and the ability to manage matrix management and communication structures.
Attention to detail.
Proven ability to work constructively as part of a team, display initiative and work strategically and independently with limited supervision.
Understanding of the regulatory environment in which The IIE operates (CHE, SAQA, DHET) particularly but not limited to the regulations and legislation associated with distance education.
At least three years’ experience in an academic management environment preferably at a higher education provider and in online learning.
Supervisory or management experience of at least three years.
Key Performance Area:
Establishing processes and best practices that best support an online delivery
Planning and coordinating the rollout of each programme and short course
Efficient running of the academic operations required for online qualifications and short courses – from registration and orientation through to graduation/certification
Manages escalated student queries
Oversees the coordination and budgeting for online exam centres
Recruitment, training and management of an academic operations team responsible for supporting online learning students
Manages student support initiatives including the services of an online Wellness Navigator and implementation of a SLB and Student Forum
Manages, with the Academic Co-Navigator, the evaluation of online learning support services with a direct focus on student throughput rates and student retention and satisfaction
Collaborate with the Academic Co-Navigator to provide operations support to academic navigators to ensure and enhance student engagement and student experience
Serves as an Online Success Navigator for predefined postgraduate programmes (NQF 8-10)
Assists with marketing initiatives specific to the online ‘campus’, eg: virtual information sessions and Open Days
Management and reporting of delivery in all the above areas
